For short, matte is more "stable," offering advantages in anti-slip, anti-reflective, and anti-static properties.
Glossy is more "smooth," offering advantages in easy cleaning and smooth conveying.
In addition to matte and glossy, various patterned PVC conveyor belts (such as grass or diamond patterns) are available on the market.
These provide stronger friction and are suitable for special needs such as climbing inclines.
Matte vs. Glossy:
1. Surface Characteristics and Friction.
Matte: The surface is matte, usually with a slightly frosted texture or matte coating. It has a higher coefficient of friction, a stronger "gritty" feel
and excellent anti-slip performance.
Glossy: The surface is smooth and flat, with a noticeable gloss and reflective effect. It has a lower coefficient of friction, a very smooth surface,
and items tend to slide easily on it.
2. Applicable Scenarios and Conveyed Materials.
Matte:
Inclined Conveying: Due to its high friction, it is suitable for conveying materials at a certain angle to prevent them from sliding down.
Small/Lightweight Items: Such as electronic components, small cardboard boxes, plastic bags, etc., preventing items from veering off course
or slipping during transport.
Positioning and Assembly Lines: Materials need to remain relatively stationary on the conveyor belt for easy gripping by robotic arms or
manual assembly.
Glossy Finish:
Horizontal Smooth Conveying: Suitable for long-distance horizontal transport of large items with flat bottoms (such as large cartons and
pallets).
Sorting and Pushing: On logistics sorting or packaging lines, items often need to be manually or mechanically "pushed" or "slid" to the side
from the conveyor belt; a glossy surface significantly reduces pushing resistance.
Anti-Sticking Conveying: Smooth surface, does not easily adhere to materials with slight stickiness.
3. Impact on Automated Equipment (Sensors).
Matte Finish: Non-reflective surface (diffuse reflection), ideal for automated production lines equipped with photoelectric sensors, laser
scanners, or machine vision inspection systems, preventing sensor misjudgments or visual recognition failures due to belt reflection.
Glossy: The surface is prone to mirror reflection, which may interfere with through-beam or reflective photoelectric switches, causing signal
flickering or false alarms. If it must be used, the sensor's installation angle usually needs to be adjusted.
4. Cleaning and Maintenance Difficulty.
Matte: Due to its fine texture or frosted feel, it is relatively easy to trap dirt (such as dust and debris). Cleaning requires careful wiping with a
brush or damp cloth, making it slightly more difficult.
Glossy: The surface is extremely smooth, not easily attracting dust and dirt, and can be wiped clean easily. It is more popular in environments
with high hygiene requirements (such as food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, and the daily chemical industry).
5. Abrasion Resistance and Appearance Durability (Scratch Resistance).
Matte: The surface itself has no gloss, and even minor scratches are not noticeable during daily use, maintaining a consistent appearance
over a long period.
Glossy: Once the surface is scratched by a hard object, the scratches will be very noticeable (the scratched area will become matte or white),
affecting the overall aesthetics, but not necessarily affecting the actual conveying function.
